"And Now The Glaciers Melt..."

"And Now The Glaciers Melt..."

A Poem by Chris
"

A Thursday Thought again

"

“And Now The Glaciers Melt…”

I remember Mission beach at sunsets…

...and Virginia Beach... Beaufort,

the Atlantic City boardwalk…

and a world of other places - other times…

Norwegian fjords,

Rotterdam quays,

Rhodes, Cigle, Istanbul

Japan, England, Portugal…

Hands I’ve held

and those I couldn’t,

wishes and kisses -

given and taken.

H’lo’s and goodbyes,

People...mindshots of captured breaths

and so many, many faces.

All the sounds I missed and those I couldn’t.

I’ve lived and died by inches -

the hurts so deep God cried…

love so deep - I cried…

and days I made a difference.

Chris

For sure. Semper Fi
Encapsulated life. I particularly love the last stanza. It could stand by itself and still be amazing.

This makes me think of "The Tattooed Map" by Barbara Hodgson. You've given us glimpses and glances of places you've been, things you've seen, and people you've known. I think there are more days when we've made a difference than we can ever know. A simple smile can lift one's spirit. A kind word can kill the cruelty of another. Your journey and your map are hidden within, but your poetry lends us the coordinates so that we might journey with you through the past.

it's life's journey...the one the body and mind take..and the one the heart takes.

so different. yet so the same.

Thanks Jacob...I appreciate knowing you.
Your work always affects me Chris, you reach down inside of you and pull out emotions with such ease.

"the hurts so deep God cried"

That resonated in my bones.... war torn reminiscing of life and love's history.

Visual - like a map of someones travels with those pins you stick in as markers. Map of your life woud be people's faces as those pins, dotted around your brain like those markers.
(This is the visual of what your poem conjured in my mind)

Always a pleasure, always thought inspiring.... and I do love crossing the sea so effortlessly...:)
It feels like a memory of memories...
The word nostalgia comes to mind as well.
So this is what the polished pebbles look like when the ice melts away?
Thank you for sharing your art today! Very enjoyable read.

thanks man...glad you're here today
Very nostalgic write. Made me think of my travels through life that I've experienced so far, whether they be a fantastic adventure or a slave-like toil, and what the future holds. Since I have a birthday coming up, that theme really fits the intertwined joy and bittersweet of leaving another year and beginning the next...

Memories....sometimes they can make us smile...others they make us melancholy for what once was or what never could be. Well written poetry. Lydi**
