149. Never, Never on a Sunday

149. Never, Never on a Sunday

A Poem by Anne Martin
"

look away now

"

haberdasher, gatecrasher
pudding or pie, oh my
giv’n a frosty drink
I’ll tell you a lie

down on the bed to sleep
sorely needed after these
extraneous exertions extantly
expectant exhibitionist in extremis

someone should put me in my place
keep them out of harm’s way
she’s come out to play
that dungareed diva

no shame
I’m the one to blame
today, everyday, even tomorrow
they’re all the same

I just want to blend in, not
can’t put me down when I’m hot
some like it that way
but I’m not wire
d

to behave like an adult
(that ship long since sailed)
to keep my mouth clean
like moving a mountain

You run the gauntlet with so many of your words: chasing around nearby saplings, making friends, putting life in its place but going your own sinuous way. Different ambience here, different daring!

Absolutely love and admire the rhyme scheme which flows off the tongue smoothly and the usage of alliteration is super clever as it is so relevent to the poem's ethos in telling how this person is no caged bird, unique with quite the bubbly personality, as that's the way she's wired!!
