Sole

A poem about loneliness and depression.

The path is dark and overcast

But there is a dim glow at the end

Through the darkness one must walk

To that light, that voice, that friend.

To be alone is to be at peace

For days and weeks at a time

To be alone is to feel ever so sad

Embrace it, make it mine.

I breathe and sense the light now

Alone I can't go on

The darkness comes to swallow me

The light bright, hear the angels song.

Author's Note

I wrote this after spending New Years Eve alone. It was an incredibly odd experience. I wouldn't consider myself to be a melancholic person, but when my neighbours were having parties and I could hear the music and laughter, the fireworks and cheers, and I was home alone, and my phone was silent...I felt like the loneliest person on the planet.
