The Tangled Web

The Tangled Web

A Poem by Dalton Wagoner
"

This is a poem I've composed that relates to a real-life situation, especially one I've gone through. Criticism is welcome and I hope you enjoy!

"
Oh, what a tangled web we weave
When at first we start to deceive
You started with no bad intention in mind
But it came back to you and it bit your behind
You thought that one lie couldn't have much effect
But they filed behind each other and they sure did collect
It left you to figure out what is really the truth
Overall it has left you a heap of self-ruth
It left you to wonder when you had last lied
You start to wonder if your old self has died
And in the midst of all this, you are utterly troubled
The people who distrust you has only redoubled
You finally realize who the villain is now
It was you all along and you admit it avow
Life as you know it may go away
But just tell the truth to gain it back someday
Oh what a tangled web we weave
When at first we start to deceive

I really like how you repeated the first two lines at the end, because after reading the poem, the words: "Oh what a tangled web we weave
When at first we start to deceive," are read in a completely different light. The reader is enlightened as to the depth that those words contain.
Great job!

You have a good imagination and your descriptive powers are strong for someone your age. Your writing concepts are strong and you deliver an ending with moral value, also a surprise at your age. I look forward to reading the rest of your work.
