This poem is a girl's response to someone leaving her for another.

I love you

I love you more than the sea is wide

More than the sky is blue

More than I've loved any other

I just do

 

I love you

I miss you everyday more than you can imagine

More than you could fathom

More than you know

I just do

 

Did you love me?

You said it… but did you mean it?

You claimed it… but was it true love?

You said you needed me… was it all a lie?

A hoax?

Was it that I was taken?

Did you just want me because you couldn’t have me?

 

You said it would never fade… it did

I would rather hear the truth

Not the perfect fairytale answer

 

All the lies parents tell to keep their children behaving and imaginative…

All of them fake… just like your love

 

I was foolish for thinking I had a chance

Believing you

Thinking you could like me

 

I allowed you to be the last person I thought of before I slept

If I slept

I let you occupy my mind

 

I know why you chose her

She's beautiful

She's royal, regal even

I considered you my knight in shining armor

I sit and watch from the castle gates as you ride off into the sunset with your princess

For I'm just a handmaiden… nothing more… nothing less
