Are the dead really dead?

Lie in your bed tonight,
close your heavy eyes,
burdened by the day.

think about your life
before into your purple dreams,
your mind drifts away..

what if you're not alive?
what if that from the start,
you were lying in a grave..

within the empty ground,
mistaken for a dead,
lying wide awake..

would it freak you out,
to hear their sad sobs?
to hear them for you pray?

is it hard for you to lie,
buried in that hall,
and for your end to wait?

think about who died,
the ones you loved the most,
what if they feel the same?

what if it's all a lie,
that you only stay alone,
until forever ends?

slowly open your eyes,
try to cherish your life,
for you are not dead yet..

i thought about this yesterday, and it freaked the hell out of me
i mean seriously what if death is only a continual observation of other people's life?
do i sound creepy?? :S

@de-mruf: Why use a quote from Wikipedia? It's the very definition of plagiarism for ANY site and to use it in a comment for a most beautiful poet this site has..... I have words for that, that I don't wish to use!!

This poem is fascinating on many levels, assumed and gorgeous!! To take a step back and wonder the creation that is the "birth of what we believe" and apply that to what we can hold physically, must boggle the mind on a consistent basis and rarely isi it ever written so beautifully with the respect and adoration of such care to words that you show in this very poem. Just beautiful.... I'm coming off of another one of your poems, so I'm with a most lofty mood to approach this one!! lol You brought up so many fascinating ares of dreams, wonders that Science tries to prove and disprove, and what if this regeneration that we feel in being connected all at once and to everyone is, in fact, energy passed from one to another through the course of our world's history on Earth?!!!! Beautiful poem. Wonderful length, word usage, strength in pushing such a topic so easily, and gorgeous poetess!! Great job.... I Love You, Aurora.... I miss your poems... even when they are sometimes read on a daily basis!! lol

no Sal, as a matter of fact, this doesn't sound that creepy of you...i mean, it is a creepy thought but i have often had this fantasy in my head that goes .....okay, what if i am not really alive anymore? what if i died when i went into surgery and i just think i'm still alive every time someone mentions my name or thinks out loud about me? i mean, is it possible that whatever we do is seen and heard only by gifted people because we are really dead? see? now it is your turn to say "boy, you are really creepy!" i loved this poem so much it is going into my library under faves!

not creepy at all, shows imagination.....I always used to wonder, when I was young about ATOMS......The construction of atoms is almost identical to that of our solar system....So WHAT...I thought.....if our solar system was nothing but a tiny atom in an infinitely larger world.......weird or what?
