Relatively speaking

Relatively speaking

A Poem by Beccy

Image result for photo of a cat looking in a mirror
On the concept of perceptual relativity
I know little and care even less,
but this face is considerably handsome
and quite suits me; I'm bound to confess.

The puzzle of course, is who is it?
For 'tis very familiar to me,
and each time I pass by a particular spot
it's the first blessed thing that I see.

Now I'm just a cat, not some boffin
with enough intellectual skill,
to figure out why we so perfectly match,
when we stand, or sit down or keep still.

For my forte is purring and pouting
and preening myself day and night,
with occasional foray when dusk falls,
for romance, or perhaps a good fight.

So I shall just prowl on regardless,
which is what a cat does; more or less,
But this face is considerably handsome,
and quite suits me I'm bound to confess.

Too many humans assess other humans by checking out their fake hair, fake nails, or fake body parts. Animals, on the other hand, know when the time is ripe to sniff the other animal's butt. Your poem is the cat tutorial on trusting the way your gut feels when you look at someone. Love your ingenuity, having fun making a serious point (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Not only do you show your prowess (wish i could put 'purress' but better not!) but, you've crept under that little creature's larger than life happy inner being! Rather think a lot of critters - with varying amounts of feet, see what they want to see when they gaze into the mirror: wanting to be just that touch more than are or feeling that they already are. Yet what's there is self and reflection, the Is and the Might be if..

' So I shall just prowl on regardless, which is what a cat does; more or less, .. .. ' Superb language, start to finish.

I wonder how many people see themselves as as greater than they are! A very clever enjoyable poem, which lilts along with life and love.

I believe this probably's the same attitude our cats have . . . not shared by our dog!!
Good write, Beccy. Thanks.

hmm... for a minute there i thought you wrote a poem about me when i was in my twenties. This poem about your familiar rings very familiar to me as well and I love the sing song cadence and flow to this and enjoy your rhyming scheme. Unfortunately my current feline friend is one of questionable intelligence and tends to hiss at his own reflection its sad to watch... but endlessly entertaining

This poem brought back memories of a stray cat that we "adopted." My then 3 year old son decided he should be called Percy, (because he purrs see). . Your accompanying picture described his dual personality He became handsome, affectionate and glossy, but would terrorise our Jack Russell, who tried desperately to befriend him.
Your poem summed this up perfectly,Beccy. ....Loved it!

I love my cat. She think she is a lion.
"So I shall just prowl on regardless,
which is what a cat does; more or less,
But this face is considerably handsome,
and quite suits me I'm bound to confess."
The above lines. Great way to describe what cats do. Thank you Beccy for sharing the amazing poetry for the cat.

Okay so I scrolled down and read what other said and most seem to think this is a cat talking. For me it's a femme fatale, maybe it's my love for Catwoman shinning through? But I can see her walking the dark streets of Gotham, looking for a fight to some romance.

This reminds me of the monologes of old. The shape and form of it is superb. The wit is beyond good. Entranced!
