![]() That GirlA Poem by Miss Marie Riorden.![]() The shy one who doesn't talk. Don't you know.![]() You see that girl, that one in the back The girl who seems quiet, speech she lacks That girl you think has no voice at all Who barely picks up her voice at the teacher's call You see her, those bracelets she wears Would you ever wonder if they covered the pain she bears And those dark clothes, she wears them so proudly Her figure screams "emo" oh so loudly
What about that girl, who hides behind the mask Who's always there to help you when you come around and ask Who never sheds a tear, no matter the burden you spill on her Who waits there 'til you're finished, never does it occur That girl who never cries, or ever shows emotion Or when she does she laughs, her permanent devotion Always willing to help out her friend, putting them in front No matter what they say, it's not about what she will want
Then you see that girl, you know she has the scars Bruises black under her eyes, looking up to the stars She's tired you can tell, yet she doesn't ever sleep She's always willing to take that one extra leap And you've seen those extra bruises, the ones that mark her arms Ones that look ever so frightning, without charms You wonder if she's abused, but never think to ask So her one and only reaction is to keep up that mask
I know you see me now, I'm standing here covered in ink I've wrote it out all bloody, my emotions on the brink I'm "that girl", the one who never talks The girl in the classroom that everybody mocks The one whose been abused, come to school ashamed The only ones to show, her parents have to be blamed But since I'm "that girl", I've already shown you too much And away from this happy place, at imagination I clutch © 2011 Miss Marie Riorden.Author's Note
