TRUTH OR SECRETS

TRUTH OR SECRETS

TRUTH OR SECRETS

After our evening tryst

He appears to be content with our intimacy

As I am

Apart from my distress over

His brief time to depart again

It does not seem to trouble him

That a long-distance disunion is upon us

His mood is notably divergent from mine

He speaks genuinely about

The war and his soldier friends

Well nigh as if he affixes with them

It prompts a kind of envy in me

As if his farewell is merely

A peck on the cheek

I, by contrast, behold it

As a heart-rendering event

A splitting of the souls

A moment of extreme setback

Despite that I simply cannot uncover

My true feelings to him

Or he will judge pitifully of me

He encourages me to be bold and courageous

As if to transform myself into a personage

Of a different visage

Which is a contrariety, and an absurdity.

Be that as it may

We spend the next two days frolicking

Like two teenagers, walking arm in arm

Kissing every three minutes

Trotting along, then a quick tryst on the grass

Laughing, tasting each other’s spices

It all resembles a fable

If it were only eternal

The moment arrives to say farewell again

I scantily slept the previous eve

My sentiments are locked up with a key to

My most inner being

One day, perhaps, in a letter

I will divulge my precise frame of mind

Take my chance that my soldier will swallow

The authentic me

Betty this write left me feeling your need for closeness and pain at physical seperation. I could sense the hesitancy to divulge your feelings and the knowledge that time passes too quickly.

Thank you for a thoughtful review; though this is all fiction…..

wow. talk about being in love! sometimes it happens so fast that our head spins and we don't know what is real or true anymore. an easy write to get lost in but ultimately we must find our way back to the real world. love is always worth exploring, mere infatuation quickly fades. the truth always find a way. deep flowing read ... :)

When I read this I think of my ancestors that moved from all parts of the world was before there was the internet, etc. The only communication was through letters and often they were last..
Your words read like a short story and I do so enjoy reading them...

Mixed emotions come through dear Betty in this write. Difficult to contemplate what those poor souls had to endure. Not knowing whether they would see each other again, when it was time to say farewell. A poem which has its happy moments but is also tinged with sadness. Penned beautifully, it leaves me remembering that this scenario played out for so many in the past.

The style and wording of your poem is more than fine, Betty. You turn back pages and portray another time superbly. Am there listening to your thoughts as you put your mix of happiness, devotion and sadness pen to paper.. yes, paper.. no techno intruding in this finely created poem.

I'm hoping he wanted true love and not a quickie thing. He looks like he is serious about war and his friends while you are more serious about the relationship. Farewells come with a price as do wars. We are all fighting for something.
Excellent story type poem

Wow! You are welcome.
Your long awaited visit is over all too soon and he is away once more, having to get his war head back on and you too have to get your worrying head back on and hope the next reunion will be final and the war will end and your lives together can begin.
War is hell, for those fighting it and those left behind too.

I am sure after all of this time, these moments together, the missing, the longing he definitely will. What a beautiful love story, two hearts separated by duty and honor, two souls, more than ships passing in the night but...I guess we will see. I still have this feeling of dread inside.
