IMMORTAL SISTERS

IMMORTAL SISTERS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

idols of the universe

"

Seven sisters

Lorna, Flora, Ruby, Sadie, Beatrice, Helen, and Adele

curvaceous and astute

they quarrel with the wind

alter their garments

as clouds shadow within their crevices

and moonbeams kiss them every eve

They shudder when snowflakes blanket them

and winter’s wrath smacks their faces

it is then that they huddle together

to stay cozy and listen to their hearts flutter

They giggle with each other

as spring beckons

with buds of wild flowers

coating their voluptuous figures

and green sprouts enveloping their bonnets

When buds turn to flowers

they show off their finest

nearly reach the sun

which roasts them in their glory

The high spot is Autumn

when they array like pumpkins, apples, squash

favorite season of all

they do not look the same

yet one can surmise that they are sisters

seven of them

tall, grand, ageless, immortal

idols of the universe

Very creative, touching each season with care and fun and the ever-watchful evening skies. Seven sisters, those chased by Orion across the universe. I love the thought of them watching the seasons change, giggling and huddling together for warmth. Really nicely crafted betty and a fun read.

So wonderfully you explained the beauty of nature with example of sister's in an unique way. Yes each of them are different I your own surrealist way! Great one B ~

Welcome friend :)
This is a beautiful poem using sister as a way to talk about the season and how they hibernate, sprout grow then wither and again hibernate until the sun is warm and flourishing

The flower and the pumpkins are a great way to show the changing of the seasons as well as them huddling together to stay warm from the snow.

Ahh, I have heard of the six sisters myth, which goes along the lines that they were chased into the sky and became a constellation, which ties up into so many cities myths of being built on six hills, but seven sisters is a new one to me at least.
But nice to know that old Ma Naturehas some help in her latter years as keeping up with all the messes we make must have her near enough bald from tearing out her hair at our own selfishness.
I would not like to be the guy who causes the next oil spill with seven of them to contend with....and I can assure you, it will be a guy! 😃

One can see the Seven Sister mountains from a beautiful lake in Black Mountain NC…thank you Lorry .. read more
Betty, you have a unique way of making solidity gently inviting, of creating charm out of distant apparitions; - creating truth out of reality and welcoming it on behalf of dull eyes and minds.

Each of your stanzas is visual and more but there is something about..

'They giggle with each other
as spring beckons
with buds of wild flowers
coating their voluptuous figures
and green sprouts enveloping their bonnets'

We have similar but not the same here, the seven sisters cliffs in Sussex. They chalk their way along a distance that takes the breath away. Must research yours.. this One aims to learn something new every day, methinks have learned two!

Thanks a million EM….yes the Appalachian Mountains are the oldest in the world! We live among them.. read more
We have the three sisters in the blue mountains just three monoliths of rock and vegetation standing out, weathered by time. Somewhat immortal but time will catch up with them. Entertaining write Betty.

Thank you Anita for that lovely comment!

All nicely done
They must be quite impressive
here we have two "Lions" that overlook the lower mainland
I enjoy watching western movies just to see the remaining sandstone structures.
Is your lady planning to take a tour through the seven, possibly becoming "friendly" with a handsome tour guide..??
