Deep

Deep

A Poem by Bhaarath Ramesh

I was asleep,
And a sound startled me.

I woke up at once,
To the chimes of the clocks.
It was time.

I brushed my teeth,
Brushed my hair.

Made myself a meal,
To get through the day.

I watched the sun from my room,
It was time.

I opened the door,
To set my foot out.

It felt real,
To be out,on a bright summer day.

I knew the distance to my destination,
Hence I walked out of memory.

Two steps forward,
Two steps right,
A thousand steps forward,
Ten steps left,
None backward.

Suddenly I was swept off,
By a vicious gust.

I was buoyed by nothing,
But my will to live.

It was a long journey,
Completely out of my control.

I heard the sound,
That one hears when something cuts the air.

I turned to look below me,
I was blinded by light, instead of being killed by the darkness.

I closed my eyes,
And fell asleep.

I woke up at once,
To the chimes of the clocks.

Hallucinations,
Invaded my consciousness.

I rubbed my eyes,
And then there were none.

Now,I saw Him,
Succumb to the forces of gravity.

Insensitivity was His name.

His face had no emotion,
Neither his outstretched hand,any meaning.

I looked up at the darkness,
I dare not mention the light beneath me.

Now,I saw Him,
Succumb to the forces of gravity.

Chauvinism was His name.

His face bore a smirk,
His outstretched hand,held a gun.

I looked up at the darkness,
I dare not mention the light beneath me.

Now,I saw a part of me,
Succumb to the forces of gravity.

Narcissism was His name.

His face had no eyes,
His outstretched hand had twenty fingers.

I looked up at the darkness,
I dare not mention the light beneath me.

Ere I could reach the light,
I saw a lot of others fall beneath me.
Some men,some women.

Finally,I reached the zone of light.

I looked up at the darkness,
I thought it was farther from me than usual.

Twas a remarkable fall,
The one I just had.

I could not make out the reason,
Or the meaning behind the fall.

Was it a pit?
Was it an abyss?
Was it a well?
Was it a bore?

I closed my eyes,
And fell asleep.

I woke up at once,
To the chimes of the clocks.

Hallucinations,
Invaded my consciousness.

I rubbed my eyes,
And then there were none.

Now,I saw Her,
Afloat on an invisible cloth.

Her face,full of glory.
Her outstretched hand,full of books.

Twas a remarkable fall,
Perhaps, the only one I will ever have.

I could now make out the reason,
And the meaning behind the fall.

For I was travelling from darkness,
Onto the light.

Falling out of my will,
Falling out of my senses.

A million meters within the surface,
I held her hand.

Stroked her hair,
And kissed her forehead.

Ergo, I was falling in love.

Wow, another gripping poem. The words flowed and perked my curiosity- worth delving into, and then to a resolved conclusion at the end. The imagery is surreal, dragging me along with it... I love this;
