Roses

Roses

A Poem by Christian Bonoan

I wasn't ready for it all
My eyes were closed and heart beats fast
"Surprise!" you said as my lips curved
My chest went warm with all your love

You gave me roses from the streets
And they grew and reached my heart
They told me how you love and care
That you will live for my only sake

Each day I wake, I water them
They grow and grow with all my love
Our love grow along with the roses
With tender care, that forever we'll share

Days passed, the roses grew fast!
I touched them but got picked by its thorns
As you and I grew like the roses
Beautifully shining with nightmares behind

The roses didn't last long
One by one petals fall like domino
You and I, we're bound to love together
But you told me "No, this isn't forever"

I never wanted to see roses again
For I see you in them, it pains my heart
Like the roses, my heart died with you're gone
It was a drought in my heart

The roses went dry inside my heart
As you left me all alone in this place
Drying up, losing hope in my life
But I cried, As I watered myself

I survived the darkness in my brain
Like a rose about to die
And was watered by myself
I now see that I have to live for my own.

Roses, love and life. A amazing story told in the poetry.

I liked the logic of the above lines. We must bleed to know how to live. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Splendid! Thank you for sharing such a beautiful poem about roses, love and failed relationship. The last two lines are hope and display the strength to survive through failed relationship and stand up for oneself.

This is like most relationship failures, there will always be that one thing that reminds you of a person you had a connection with rather its good or bad. perfect description :)

Great story-telling through the use of metaphor/similes likening a healthy then putrefying rose, as ones hopeful romantic engagements ensue.

This story held my attention by the power of that rose, the connection heavy and symbolism strong.

I also enjoyed how you ended on the fact that you must water yourself and live on your own, which most don't understand (to have a fruitful relationship, one must~first~be fruitful within ones foundation of existence, before exploring elsewhere "a partnership").

The imagery, message, storyline, progress, all wonderful. I highly enjoyed this piece.

Thank you.

Much love,

LR
