Lonely Words

Lonely Words

A Poem by Burak Batuhan Karakus

The ink spills unsure from my trembling hand,

I try to reach your distant eyes,

To build a fragile bridge across our divide,

And mend my broken, aching heart.

Hidden by an elegant mask,

Moonlit walks,

Me concealing my true self, cloaked in fear,

My painful flaws too ashamed to cleanse.

You did not deserve my agonizing truths,

It was more than these hollow words of youth.

It is vital to see beyond the tales I told,

To my barren and lonesome soul.

Now in this loneliness I see more clear,

My guarded words kept you away from here.

I found solace in the empty lines of ink,

Did not dare reveal or even think.

I was just as scared to expose my truest pains,

Now I promise my deepest self,

My free heart, unmasked and bare.
