A Letter to my Husband

A Letter to my Husband

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery

My Dearest Husband,

You often look down at your clothing and frown. You often say that you always 'look like a bum'. You ask me if I am ashamed to be seen in public with you. If we rush out to grab a bite to eat in a restaurant, you ask ' will you be embarrassed because I have on work clothes?' You see stains, paint, dirt, and something to be ashamed of. You think it makes you seem like less of a person to wear work clothes. You think I or your children will be ashamed of those clothes. Let me tell you what those clothes REALLY say:
Those clothes tell a wonderful story. Those clothes are witness to a man who loves his family enough to provide for them. They tell of perseverance. They speak of love and hard work and strength. Those paint splatters tell about your long working day full of honesty, integrity, and the sweat of your brow. Those smears of dirt and sweat stains speak of sacrifice and diligence. When I am doing your laundry I am often moved to tears. Looking at those clothes I think of all the hard work you do for US. I think of all the hopes and dreams you have for us. I think of how much you must love us. The proof of your love is in those clothes. You wake up every morning and hit the ground running in those clothes, chasing down dollars for us and the life you want to provide for us. Husband of mine, do not be ashamed of those clothes. I am not ashamed of those clothes. I LOVE those clothes and what they represent, and I love YOU. Please remember that when you start to worry about what you might look like in those clothes, or what others might think, what they might see. I see the man I love providing for his family, and your children will see that too.

With much love and admiration,

Your Wife

Fabulous my friend you have weaved a magic thread indeed. So very beautiful and loving and so very different. I just loved your every word and all the emotion within this was just great too. How lucky your hubby is to have a wife as considerate and loving as you. I know that he will well agree with me.

^.^ Aww that's very sweet! It's refreshing to see that people still love and adore each other, even after they've married. This was a really cute letter--I hope he loved it!!

I never thought about how a another person's clothing will affect his wife and children.
I know I get angry when I buy my husband new clothing and he won't use the old clothes for his mechanical work or his painting. I can't keep up with his clothing issues with our income so he is forced to wear things that are torn up and stained.
I have a different perspective on this now. Thanks for waking me up.
