Aging Disgracefully

Aging Disgracefully

A Poem by Carrie Montgomery
"

for Momma

"
...I wrote this after my momma called me frantic about her chin-hair and her lunch date w/a friend! She will kill me when she reads this!!

I looked in the mirror
and what did I see?
A chin-whisker hair
staring back at me!

"Holy S**t!"
I cried in dismay
How long have I been
walking 'round this way?

Oh, my goodness,
did my husband see?
And what about
the bag boy who
flirted with me?

I've been to the salon
they'll talk on and on
they'll snicker and make fun
they'll all act as though
they've never had one

Find my tweezers
heat up the wax
hand me my scissors
or sharpen the axe

It's gotta come out
that hair must go
I've got to get it
so no one will know...

Ouch! I got it!
And Thank God!
I'm supposed to have lunch
with Shirley Todd...

Ah, here she is
how lovely is she!
OH MY GOD...
is that a HAIR I see?!?

This makes a very powerful point about how no one wants to seem flawed but we quickly notice everyone else's
