Rainbow

Rainbow

A Poem by Casey Truax

In his fascination with the number seven,
Isaac Newton carved the rainbow
Into seven colors, and named a hue
For each day of creation.
So the Hebrews brought order to their universe
Through a series of divisions:
They divided light from darkness,
Sky from ocean, Eve from Adam.
The plow would not be shared by ox and a*s,
Nor wheat and barley mingle in the field,
Nor linen and wool be weaved as one,
Nor Jew would marry gentile.
Yet the colors of the rainbow flow
As one continuous motion,
Indifferent to the boundaries
That arbitration sets upon them.
We are a blend of what we were
And what we shall become,
Reflecting in ourselves
The multitudes of our heritage,
And in all our variations
A principle unites us all,
The wavelength stretching like a tether
To the depths of the invisible,
The line of our descent
Reaching back to blurry past,
Where humankind, much like a color,
Has no true beginning.

Lovely thoughtful piece here Casey, it opens up so many other concepts also and definitely got me thinking.
Best wishes

Lathen.
