What have I become?

What have I become?

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Just words.

"
          What have I become?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 The sea whispered to me.
What have you done?
The silence of the night,
make the quiet mind know.
No more, too late, farewell we shall go.
Life become bits and pieces,
were we kind? Were we gentle?
Did I leave strong earth behind?
Did I love?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Neither joy, nor love, nor strong earth,
the greedy man wealth.
I asked the Harvest moon,
did I do enough?
Was I a thief too?
Stole from the lakes,
abused the land and left,
just waste and hate.
I  asked the solitary man in the mirror,
how did you live?

Coyote, I've listened to that song many times. It's more haunting each time, especially knowing his life story. Your poem speaks to a truth we discover more as we age. Regardless of our faith to God, wife/husband, friends, children, etc., we're ultimately judged by ourselves, based on our own principles. And, if we've been unfaithful to ourselves, it's a haunting image that mirror reflects. Excellent work, sir.

' I asked the Harvest moon, - did I do enough? - Was I a thief too? '

Could be that it isn't the answers that matter, but - BUT, that you had the integrity and need to ask that question of yourself, John.

So many people go through life throwing darts at others that they forget that the holes made to selves made by others' darts - have left us open to a draining away of kind thought. Too many are ready to criticise. to tear others from their deserved place. Here you've shown the man you are and should be proud. Wise thought, open mind and heart in your words, a great poem one of your very best.

Thank you dear Emma. I appreciate your kind words.
dear John... to say we did the best we could at the time... is often true.
When we become wise we are in such disguise we hardly recognize the person
who we used to be. We learn and grow... wishing we had known the simple beauty of
a single flower when it blossoms and flies away with the wind to fly a kite for a little kid.
truly, Pat
