Cat scratches

My cat scratched me

She said about the marks on her arms

Nobody knew she didn’t own a cat

They took in stride

I fell from a tree

She told her parents about the marks on her arms

They took it as her being clumsy

Then moved on

I’m sorry she said

Swinging from that spot

Nobody had any clue

She seemed so normal and nice

I'm sorry if this is autobiographical . . . I've suffered depression over half my 60-year life, so I totally relate to your author's note. I've never cut myself, but I totally understand the way it can be a source of control & comfort, plus the ways we disguise our neuroses (all of them, not just cutting) with excuses & little white lies. You've made this so true-to-life, yet also very original.
