Sweetly Scented Secrets

Sweetly Scented Secrets

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm

We quietly slip away
to the sweetly scented secrets
we will never let go of
long enough to curve into the sun.

Although we found nothing lacking
or haunting the broken jewels of quiet
got twisted as day broke
and likewise our eyes were opened to none.

Will we mourn the loss of smiles
or be strengthened by tears
that heartache lights up
when we bleed.

Or will our bodies fill the spaces
in the past that felt better
because we were next to one another
as we breathed.

I need you to guide me
to the west of your kiss or lead me
to the end
of what is left to tell.

Because no one knows
what will coat what we have put on the line
when the time comes
to pay the fiddler from hell.

When we quietly slip away once again
to the sweetly scented secrets
will it rain
on our own emotions?

Or will we find nothing lacking
in our desire to live within
what we will never let go of
long enough to curve into the sun.

A silent secret is deadly and we hold them always close to our hearts, but if given a choice to embrace them or to embrace life what would people chose? To have that desire to live that you wrote more eloquently than I do here, is letting go of the past and embracing the unknown with convictions. Your words are always beautiful and your images rich with an underlying meaning that teaches us how to be humans first.

Will we settle for existence, or do we want to live? Many of your poems ask questions such as this of me, Neva, and that's why I appreciate you so much. When asked which is preferable, security or freedom, so many answer "freedom" and lie to themselves. I have many times. With words such as yours as guidance, I have the strength and courage to look in the mirror, meet eye to eye with myself, and admit where and when I have settled. Thank you.

This written with a ring of indifference almost..how do i explain this? you are merely asking questions, and its not like you dont care, but you're asking without emotion, "When we quietly slip away once again to the sweetly scented secrets will it ran on our own emotions?"

This is truly the stanza that bought tears to my eyes

To be guided west of a kiss, taken to the ends of the earth, hopefully finding answers as day turns into night...

When it comes time to pay the fiddler it should be with truth.

A salute to you Neva and your words so sublime ;-)

Wonderfully Random in my mind. I love it. Words should rarely be planned and even less rarely thought through. Spontaneity is the spice of life; and what ac wonderful spice it is. It livens conversations, perks up mundane lives and all around is good for the soul. To much structure or planning takes all of the fun out of life. Be spontaneous.
