Lipstick on Your Collar

Lipstick on Your Collar

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

You may be a poet who rings a bell that exists in my memory.............

"

You may be a poet who rings a bell that exists in my memory

Warms me with words from the fabric of your vision
But like lipstick on your collar, I have been left undefined
Likened to a host of lips that make no decision

The warmest heart will shine after a shower of adventure
Then slowly passes to pick up what it can and will
Imagining that elemental kisses will remain so discreet
Because on quick little feet they do softly steal

Hurt runs into the fields beyond, looking for what is stolen
While a downward rain touches on bright faces
You may be a poet who rings a bell in my memories
But your collar does not hold my lipstick’s traces

Inside of your dreams there is a wide sea holding grace
It will give you back the one whom you love
Ring your bell into shadows of her sweet memory
I pray she hears you, that your love is enough

I love this poem for many a reason, not for the metaphor for which Muse saw but for what I read into it. I see a man sitting behind his keyboard, typing away words of love, words of yesterdays gone by. For things he has let slip through his fingers if only he would give up something in order to retrieve what has matter the most. Always has and always will.

Different words, different traces .. different intentions, different depths of feelings, urgency, regard, sincerity. There's so much to read in these lines, not the ones that stretch before the reviewer but the invisible ones that only you know about. As always and ever, Neva, words to make the toes curl and the mind to keep busy.

I love this. The comparison and metaphors used are simply amazing. The attention to detail here is very good.

Quite evocative. I love the phrase "the fabric of your vision." The image of hurt searching for the stolen ... brilliant.

And I too, felt touched by the first two lines of the last stanza. For, many of us want that particular grace which gives us back the one whom we love.

The way you weave words is directly opposed to the rapid fire style I love. Perhaps that is why I love this poem, indeed all of your work. This poem creates images that imbed themselves in the senses. I could write for a long time about it. Simply put though, perfect

I really like the vision you ste up with the lip stick on a collar. That in itself say so much and is a powerful metaphor. You may be a poet who rings a bell in my memories
But your collar does not hold my lipstick’s traces. I really like this line, how it confronts the reader. Very good. Well written
