If I Could Paint the Sky

I could never say
 I would like for you  to be stronger
than the wind or rain.
 You sparkle
even when raging tempests
are knocking
 on the door of time.

I can hear passion in your voice
 when you tell me
you remember
how I sang I love you
 in your ear
 and called you my Muse
that whispers words of love
over my shoulder.

I look into the window of your soul
 see my own
smiling back happily
 in the reflection of a mirror
that ripples stronger
every day.
 I can see myself there
 still singing to you
within this art
I write in my tears
of joyful rain.

If a painting of the skies could open up
a tidal wave of hidden emotions
 that would change life for the better,
 I would learn
 how to paint for you.
 Then you could breathe in
 how I feel
when you touch me
 each time
 you look at my painting again.

I would never expect you to be stronger
than the wind or rain
and I know you don’t expect me
 to paint the sky.
  So for now
 I will write the words of love
 you whisper over my shoulder
 and sing I love you,
in your ear
until the day
 I die.

Ahhhh, it's like drinking a cool glass of iced tea on the porch....I have no clue if this was to a lover, but I read it twice and felt it was for a daughter?? I love your elegance and fragile steel wings that paint a monet like poem.... beautiful.

One of the most beautifull poems I have read on this sight or ever for that matter. I love the flow and the picture is perfect for this piece...One can paint the sky with words, isn't a picture worth a thousand of them? If love was blue then it would match the sky above and be carried to our hearts on the wings of doves. If love was green then it would look like the grass and crickets would sing its praises all night long. If Love was yellow then it would be the sun. So intense and warm, so bright and full of joy. If love was a color, like blue, or green, or yellow, then we wouldnt need a paint brush to paint what is above us. We would use the love we all share between us to paint the sky.

This is a beautiful touching poem and the last stanza is stunningly done. The imagery is beautiful and paints a picture of two people who soulfully love each other and have these intimate moments that are being shared. Not sexual but loving and caring ones.
