Reprieve

Reprieve

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

composing

"

Yes I know she sings the loudest, when riding in the car

and laughs the loudest in the busy crowd;

but her sense of voice she has lost.

Her words of rhyme cannot be found.

Misery a slim companion is hiding from all

the page that remains empty from months of none attendance.

Is grieving its own appearance.

Hiding in yellows, flaming to all others, she is blaming.

Till a far "off melody soft and low in her mind, words begin composing

and the page weeps of reprieve, as it is filled to the brink.

They that knew her well found, they knew her not.

As words of truth and beauty were set to the sweetest of melodies

and she bid her fair-weathered friends farewell.

I love the line, "Hiding in yellows flaming to all others she is blaming." It's just great word play. Solid piece. Flows well. Sad last two lines, but don't we all feel that way at times. I like the form it is written in, more prose than poetry maybe, but who is the final judge on that? I'm glad I stumbled upon this peice. Some minor mistakes in punctuation, but easy to overlook and really not worth mentioning.

Did you mean "But her sense of voice"? Some people lose their sense of self when confined to the only world they know, we got to explore the unknown in order to fully understand ourselves and our limits.
