the Chess Set

the Chess Set

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

battle of love

"

Tit for tat the knight jumps back

The game is filled with emotion

his castle is tossed

But with a keen eye, her bishop is lost.

The King doth cry his Queen is dead

The united front is sparsely spread

And they discover to late that with each

Victory you do not always win.

on this occasion, everyone's a winner..
A fun and playful verse that made my tongue 'click' as I read it!

This is beautiful. "Winning" comes at a cost.

Next time I play my dad in chess, I'm going to start crying thinking this. lol

Great analogy on love.
You think, you move. On the way you may have conquests.
But love has a way of ultimately killing you.
Always be aware of the Dark Knight.

yes, would say so.
Cherrie - you surely play chess. What an interesting way to see
the trials and tribulations of a romantic relationship. Nicely done.

Take care - Dave

Cherrie, this is the first poem I've read from you. I wasn't disappointed. This is impressive. Love the metaphor and perfectly summarized in the end. I know a few who have treated relationships, including marriage, like a chess match, and they usually lose everything. So much rich content in few words and lines. Nice work!

Thank you so much Robert it popped in my head while I was driving.
Treating love like it is a game is a sure way to lose it.

Wonderfully written.
