Rise and Shine

Rise and Shine

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

Slowly I snaked my arm from beneath the covers,

and hit snooze.

What is ten more minutes?

I ask myself,

 with eyes still closed.

A Friday morning must for one thing.

Time to contemplate the day.

While waiting on the automatic coffee pot.

Dolly my miniature Aussie nudges me.

“Rise and shine sleepyhead,”

I imagine her to say.

groaning at her.

In reply she wines, nudging me once again.

Reminding me that the day pivots around my rising,

so, I do.

I thank the Lord for this new day.

Asking him for grace enough to cover it.

An amazing morning poem dear Cherrie. Yes, coffee is needed to awake the mind. Thank you for sharing your morning ritual.

Good evening dear Cherrie and you are welcome.
I have known snooze guilt in my time, although now I usually wake long before the absolute limit of waking, where I no longer have to shower, dress and pretend a choc bar is breakfast, while falling over my own feet while trying to put trousers and shoes on simultaneously... But then again, I'm sure Dolly thinks herself your alarm clock and it's just a part of the routine she has to put up with. 😊

You either have her well trained or she has trained you well 😊
It is a blessing to wake up; especially better by a fluffy, beautiful dog. You are blessed. Keep the blessings of poetry coming.
