All Around Me Is Sinking Sand

All Around Me Is Sinking Sand

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

feeling hopless, I got the idea from a commerical

"

Day without rest, night without end.

Heart without pleasure, hope without friend.

I reach to my rock but only find sand.

I reach to the sun for warmth and good measure

but my lips are now cracked,

with no cup for my plea.

I long for a tear but  I'm dry as can be.

My feet give way

my weight I cannot bear.

For all around me is sinking sand,

all around is sinking sand.

Your words took me back to a song I knew as a child... about the Solid Rock of protection and the sinking sand all around that would swallow you... What a powerful sense of desperation...

I like the longing in this Nana, it's quite different than what I usually read into you. You have the spirit of poetry, anything you touch is like glitter and gold to me.

We all feel like this at one time or another, but we have to pull ourselves up and carry on, I loved the flow of this and the imagery it created.

Anyone who has never felt like this as some point in their life are either in a coma or incredibly blessed with strength and faith. Unfortunately, I have been neither.

The poem tells a story about a life falling apart. Each line adding to the sadness and disappointment. No weakness in this poem. Just powerful description leading to a sad ending. A excellent poem.

Staying in our comfort zone does not guarantee that we are safe, it just says we are not truly living, just existing.
