Vegetarian Vampires

Vegetarian Vampires

A Poem by Frontier

Meet the living plants, the vegetarians,

People who have been

covered by, must be covered by, roots,

along their entire bodies.

 No surface of skin

can betray their animal origin. It

burns with the unprocessed,

unadulterated light of the sun: they are

it’s chosen ones,  the sun is the  proud sower and reaper.

So closely do they follow it’s light, that golden wings have

sprouted from their minds, looking like huge rabbit ears,

animals known to feast on fruits and veggies.

Sentient, innocent animals such as chickens

have become their “conversation-starter” pets,

cluck cluck cluck….all around the clock.

Straws as long as vintage

cigarrete-holders aid the

consumption of the materia prima.

Plants don’t consume, they produce

they don’t grow old and wrinkly,

they just change color,

plants don’t have to rely on gut-feeling,

they never had guts to begin  with.

I love everything about this piece, the picture definitely synchronizes with the poem.
It`s true plants could never be as poetic as us, never have to have guts. I guess you're saying that today`s generation are mindless and know nothing of glory even if it killed them ."Straws as long as vintage
cigarette-holders" made me think of how toxic people are , even to themselves and "No surface of skin
can betray their animal origin" - without the surface, midless gutless, instead of people you would call them "plants" would just fall.

This is genius. Finally a good hard look on vegetarians and who they truly are :D
Loved the image too, was it that, which inspired your poem or did you paint it? I'm curious.

Wow, that was an awesome tour-de-force of free association. It made me laugh a few times.

I'm glad Mike, thanks :)
I liked the descriptive lines, they unfolds every layer and its little creepy too... the title made me laugh and later while reading it was an imagery that beholds me.

I can agree it is quite creepy, thanks Mayank. :)
I must say, this is an intriguing approach to the whole nature of people and plants. And I cannot deny that I got a good laugh from your picture, what an absurd piece of surrealism! No wonder you managed such an interesting Ekphrastic piece with it!

Indeed it is, and yes you are correct!
What kind of incisors, canines and molars and premolars do these chaps have?

Weird idea... but it has been put forward rather nicely. What exactly is ekphrastic?

I get ideas like this a lot of the time, but I can't get them down on paper, I end up drawing random circles on a perfectly good piece of paper- sometimes I fold it into a boat and then tear it to bits or burn it.

Stupid?

Oui.

weird. that's a weird picture. this is a weird poem.

I really liked the beginning and the end of it, but the part where you described the picture, I mean, it was good, but it was almost a bit overwhelming. Like, TOO descriptive. Like when you put a chicken in a duck or whatever the s**t is, y'know? But, writing a poem about a picture isn't something I've ever done before either. Are you familiar with this picture? I'm curious as to what the process is, I guess. thanks for the write and everything.
