Footsteps

Footsteps

A Poem by Cheryl J. Turner

I believe I heard your footsteps

Upon the wooden floor

I thought I heard your voice

A voice and nothing more

I heard a silent scream

Though my ears are thick with lies

A web of wonder at my feet

All to my surprise

I cannot grip this fairytale

It's laden with my time

I've tried so hard and often

It's a wonder I have grasp of mind

I believe I heard you coughing

As you fell upon my floor

I thought I heard your voice

But I shall hear that no more

I heard a silent scream

It echoed through the halls

But at second look it was only I

Dancing without due cause

Very haunting. It's interesting how thought can linger.

I liked the pace of the short rhyming lines... the rhythm got a bit rough around 'It's a wonder'... and the next few lines... but the idea was good and the neat twist at the end worked well..
