My Prayer

Written by: T. L. O’Neal

We ask you Lord to bless the tired and weak

And to honor the spiritual and the meek

Heal the sick and the old

Look after the hungry and the cold

Help the poor to afford to live

And give people the compassion to forgive

Show the way to those that’s lost

Take away their anguish at any cost

Help us to be strong and on our feet

For one day it’s you that we’ll meet

Help those whose spirit is broken

Open up the skies and show them heaven

Help those with pain in so many ways

Bring them joy to live and obey

Help us who’s afraid of the dark

To light our way through life’s spiritual park

Help us to love one another

To accept each other as our brother

Help us spread your love around

And pick them up when they’re down

Help those who cannot see

Open their eyes for they can be free

God love us one and all

From the short to the very tall

With this Lord we do pray

Bless us with another day

Amen

This poem is filled with hope and love. I can see this prayer being used by many, and will shelve it with my favorites. T - you are filled with God's love, because it comes out in the words that you share. . . . Great job!

This is an amazingly beautiful poem. It honestly touches my heart, and reminds me that despite how terrible the world may seem at times there is still beauty and good. Thank you and well done.

This was very well done. I really the wording that you used in the poem. It is very peaceful and elegant. Sometimes you need a poem like this in order to lift our spirits. Thanks for lifting mine.

Thank you , T for an excellent prayer, one that
could be a song, to be sung, to be enjoyed in a church
or , as someone said, around the family table breaking bread.
Not only have you written a nice prayer, you have done it
with class and style. It will stand out as classic.
Thank you seems so inadequate when confronted with such
dignity. Thank you anyway, T. You have done it again.

I like the use of simple, everyday language in this one, perfect for prayer. I can imagine a family around a table reciting it. The rhyme and rhythm has a good feel to it as well.
