I don’t notice when
Every step is a step towards progress
Healing to be the best me
When
Before death
You held onto tombstones
But eventually everyone moved out of California
Left you all alone
Everyone that was once family are separating
The city’s burning and I can’t take it

Author's Note

All fires are awful, but I have vivid memories of being so panicked about the Woolsey fires because I was so worried for people in danger. I hope that people have been able to heal, I remember that fire lasting so long.

When you feel the heat, see the fire, it’s more than frightening….and the memories are more than horrid….they never go away….people leave their rubble and move….and carry those images with them. It is common to over react to these demons to no ones fault.

yes, fires are awful....I lost a best friend in a fire....still hurts terribly...

and it was 37 years ago.
Fires are so scary and when they get out of control, we are at their mercy.

Thank you Colacat for this poem. People don't realize just how bad its been the past few years out here in California with the fires. Central and So Cal have been hit particularly bad. It's one of the causes of an exodus from the state. It's smelled for months of burnt wood and also had days where it's rained ashes as well up here in nor cal. Thank you for pointing a light on these dark times we are experiencing in our state.
