Exposed Memories

Exposed Memories

A Poem by Mary

In the dark your words drift to me

strip me bare

leaving me naked in front of you

caught unaware

The moonlight softens the shock

of being disclosed

my layers are shed

my skin exposed

You whisper to my soul

the secrets of survival

the way in which we save ourselves

our innocence so fragile

I had known it all along

just refused to see

the darkness that envelops

is what's been saving me

the darkness saves

that's what you say

a child's eyes

full of pain

the darkness saves

and makes insane

a child's home

defiled, profane

(these memories are haunting me...)

About
Much of my poetry is about addiction. It played a huge, if not the only, role for many years of my life. I'm now a recovering addict, clean for over a year. I'm also recovering from self-mutilation, w.. more..
