Thinking of Pete

Thinking of Pete

A Poem by Cree Nations

To Live Again

In so many ways do I love you.

Some are known to me,

While others rest deep inside me hiding.

Waiting to be discovered, or left to rest alone in peace.

I do not love you in part " no never in part "

Yet I do love every part of you.

I feared you to be ever out of reach from me. Then

There you were across the room.

I held my breath, willing you to see me.

Only did I breathe again when you smiled.

I thought my heart would stop its beating

As I saw you begin to walk toward me.

In awe of this new yet old wonder,

I felt I might be lost in a starlit memory,

Not daring to blink,

For risk of loosing sight of you.

I could not push a single word past my lips

Unable to choose the perfect one.

In silence I did stand there

Not a whisper of a breath,

Did I dare to breathe.

So slowly did you come to stand in front of me…

In a room so full of others,

There were none for us to see.

All else about us ceased to be.

Alone again " you and me.

So near you were, yet still so far away.

At the slightest touch of your hand on mine

The feel of your heart beat mixed with mine.

That one embrace, the smile on your face.

And for the briefest of moments

Your lips on mine…

Souls that had mated so long ago in time

Once again were reunited.

As my heart did begin to dance

The old was new " me with you.

Only then did my life

Become alive again.
