Messy

Messy

A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

We trample emotions
like leaves
both so content
in getting mine
that we lose ours
in the shuffle of self
we forget why we even try
why we care.
Plowing ahead
with out even looking back
we forge new lands
and burn the past
singeing our fingers
with the embers we throw
I long for rainy days
A bed
a laugh
a smile that always turns in to more
In the sterile newness
of our present
I miss the
Messy
Crazy
days that have pasted us by

The lines that really stuck out to me "in getting mine that we lose ours" i love that. The poem has a brief tone in the beginning as if trying to recount what is going on in the present is too much to handle. The end has such an earnest plea for the simpler times, the crazy times. Really like this one

thank you.
Oh how I miss the crazy days also.
But come to think of it, I am not so sure I can relive them.
It's a blessing that I'm alive today throughout the mess lol
Great write Crystal

Of course, always! It was my honor.
I enjoyed this write Crystal... "Plowing ahead
with out even looking back
we forge new lands
and burn the past " I love those lines... it is so true. In life we do emotionally just burn the past and disregard it so we can move forward without the pain. I loved it :)

Crystal, Saw you reviewed one of mine so came over here to return the favor. I chose this one because the title meshed with what you have written in your profile. This is such a nostalgic and introspective write, having the sleepy feel of a rainy-day in bed, relax and relate time in our lives...very well done, I am sending a friend request. Please feel free to send me read requests, that's the only way to ensure that I will review a piece you've written (I've got too many friends to keep my reviewing obligations up to date). take care...dan

About
I am a poet by nature. Words just speak to me and color my world. I away think of poetry as painting with phases, just as vibrant and life giving as they are messy and complex. more..
