A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

You ball up words like fists
and bloody my ears and nose
I stagger
I stumble
Under the weight
of your sentences
your yells
your screams
quick to anger
quicker to beg forgiveness
which i dole out like candy.

this poem makes me think of an event that escalates so quickly that it is over before it even begins
i think this was your intent

if so it's like a literary train collision...
that is prevented before it ever occurs

Flows very well Crystal. I can remember bad things people said to me over the years that hurt, more than many good times I had. It just seems to linger. You wrote this well.

Thank You Robert
Words can be powerful enough to feel like a physical assault, even in the mind. I like the way you've ended this, it shows that forgiveness seems easy to dole out - and perhaps too easily and not always the best option. I have my limits on forgiveness! Very hard hitting writing, and a situation many are continually living with.

Thank you!
That is very heart-wrenching. Very relatable too. It happens even with people who do not usually argue like this, but it is heartbreaking when there is a perpetual pattern. One is always easily angered and does something very hurtful on impulse and then begs for forgiveness. The other always forgives. And then they execute the patterns by default.

About
I am a poet by nature. Words just speak to me and color my world. I away think of poetry as painting with phases, just as vibrant and life giving as they are messy and complex. more..
