3 Minutes

3 Minutes

A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

3 minutes
I sit and wait
for 3 minutes
I see a bathroom filled with make up
and hair products
I see mirrors
I see soap
2 minutes
I start to see a faint line
could it be a cross?
I see a future
a bump
a belly
a life
I see a brown haired daughter
looking up at mommy
a blue eyed son with his arms
wrapped around daddy's neck
1 minute
I try not to look
as my mind takes 2 and makes 3
I hear laughter
I see tears
I kiss boo boos
and welcome hugs
I feel love
pinks and blues
and soft hands grasping for mine
My phone beeps
Moment of Truth
I see ......
not pregnant
Again
I see barren
I see empty
I see try again next month.

Thank you for the insight!!never let frustration seep in....the practice is always so much fun!!!If you want to get pregnant try to make that event animalistic that is how my ex got pregnant the first time after many many many many times trying!!

This is very well done! I was pulled in and it kept my attention straight to the end. A very powerful message and theme supported by great use of language and imagery, fantastic job, well done!

It's sad when you're waiting for a little baby so dearly, you can just feel it growing in your body, you can just see how it grows out of you, and you're not pregnant after all. But there is always a glimmer of hope, to try again, and hope that next time there will be a plus sign as confirmation.

such anticipation in those three minutes... i felt the passing of time, so slowly, as always is the case when we are waiting for such 'news'... i sense patience, also, and hope... well-done

Thank you. I love that you were able to sense the time passing. I was going for that.
You've expressed this very well - emotional. And different to most poetry I've read on this subject before - quite unique!

Thank you. I believe all is in Gods prefect timing
I didn't know where this was going, then I got to the ending where it's revealed. This was actually sad.... If this is about you then I hope you get lucky soon. Great poem!

About
I am a poet by nature. Words just speak to me and color my world. I away think of poetry as painting with phases, just as vibrant and life giving as they are messy and complex. more..
