remains

remains

A Poem by Crystal Overmeyer-Birmingham

Close your eyes
and let me sip
the dregs
of our love
from your lips.
Ill try to believe
its the heady wine
of yesterday.

Hold tight me
til the last
remains are squeezed free
and ill act as though
i am filled again.

Rest your head
on my breast
and
lets pretend
this is hello and
not goodbye again.

With the last line my entire view had changed, at first I felt the yearning for how things were but with the last line it almost seemed as though the narrator and the subject had a past where things had already ended and they just keep seeming to find each other "this is hello, and not goodbye again". Lovely poem.

A nostalgic kind of write, a little bit melancholic as this love is temporary and tomorrow may not be.

Crystal, This is a very sweet and touching write, penned with the softest love in your heart and in your words. If you just made this whole thing up I give you great credit, but I'm thinking it's written with someone in particular as the subject; if so that is one warmly loved person. Beautiful. take care...dan

Thank you Dan. I often write from the relationships i see, a way to understand those around me.

About
I am a poet by nature. Words just speak to me and color my world. I away think of poetry as painting with phases, just as vibrant and life giving as they are messy and complex. more..
