I Remember!

I Remember!

A Poem by Deidre Hogue
"

Ten years can take a toll on a couple, especially when everything is working against their love. We have been through so much and just want to be happy.

"

It seems like only yesterday,

I cannot believe ten years have gone past.

One Facebook message from you,

turned strictly platonic into a love that can last.

I remember how we fell in love,

and the moment you said “Yes!”

I had no idea that I would relapse,

I caused a great big mess.

Two months later we said I do,

It was the happiest day of my life.

            You and I together forever,

forever you are my wife.

I never meant to hurt you,

something had a hold on me.

You took control and helped me get clean,

you fought with all your might to set me free.

            We have had our difficulties,

with kids, exes, our family, and life.

The last ten years have been amazing,

still calling you, my wife.

We have shared so many smiles,

so many tears as well.

I remember a point in time

we both thought we were in jail.

Our love has never faded though

no matter what stands in our way.

Ten years later here I stand before you

begging you to stay.

            Somewhere along the line

we forgot what we were fighting for.

I sit in our empty house wondering if I will see you

walk back through the door.

            Yes, we have a history,

yes, we have a past.

We also have a love so strong,

no matter what happens this love will last.

            We are following patterns,

of relationships before.

Things between us start to get rough,

we start screaming, fighting, and run to the door.

            That is the effortless way

to break up with your mate.

Baby with us it is not that easy,

we are each other’s fate.

            We are meant to be,

until the day we die.

That is why I will not leave,

no matter what I will stay here and try.

I will fight for our love, life, and our future,

why can you not see?

You make me feel amazing baby,

don’t you know that you complete me?

Things are going to be difficult,

the next chapter may be rough.

            We can get through this,

so long as for each other we are enough.

The trick is going to be,

letting go of the words, pain and past.

You and I fighting for what is in front of us,

Instead of fighting over who did the dishes last.

When we start to get mad or frustrated

over things that we must do.

            Look into my eyes baby,

I will look at right back at you.

Remember that we are in this together,

until death do us part.

Please do not give up on us,

I love you with all my heart.

.
