DEPRESSION

 

Have you ever been trapped living with a broken heart,

Living with a lonely soul,

Living with a lost purpose?

With Dreams, shattered

Pride, humbled

And Hope, cremated

Wrecked by the tides of life and

Your oxygen replaced by hurt and anxiety

 

Have you ever lived hard and cold towards oneself

Persistently self-indulgent in self­-pity

Angry and bitter at the circumstances of your existence

Constantly reminded that the fault is all yours

Hating every new breath you take and

Haunted by nightmares of new days to face

 

Have you ever reached for the past but found that it was long gone

Looked into the future and only glimpsed grey skies

And so lived unconscious to the passing of time

A scarlet F marked on your forehead

Because everything you touch turns to dust,

No matter how many tries you give it

 

Did you ever seek shelter from the storm and find none

Felt that God was overrated

Realised that humans are incapable of genuinely giving a damn

And so lived with all of it locked up inside

All the shame

All the guilt

All the regret

All the disappointment

Until the pain inside became so unbearable you attempted to dissect your skin to ooze it out
