DOUBT

DOUBT

A Poem by Dtone

‘Maybe tomorrow’,

 Turned to ‘maybe one day’,

 And then, to ‘probably never’.

My dreams were deceitful,

They conned me into believing,

Believing that life is filled with God,

And with God, dreams are promises.

Believing that life is kind,

To underdogs who wait for glory, in faith.

Believing that brilliance is a currency,

That can be bartered for certified success.

Believing that talent is buried deep within,

Surety, that can never be lost to the hurricanes of life.

Believing that I can love like Christ,

And bring inspiration and change to lives trapped in wretchedness.

Believing that love is for everyone,

And my insecurities, the devil’s lies.

Believing that patience pays,

So I need not compete with my favoured peers.

Believing that forgiveness should be second nature,

Hurtful people know not what they do.

I have at last however, been slapped awake by the palm of realism.

Faithful optimism is not a warranty for the defects in one’s expectations,

Life understands one faith only, doubt.

The evolution of the idea throughout the poem is neat and easily understandable. The expressiveness is really good. If you have time, try experimenting with a rhythmic (not rhymes) scheme and a structure that you feel are compatible and comfortable with your style. Personally, rhythm in a poem, is what makes it different from prose. Great work.
Salute,
