THE DARK CONTINENT

THE DARK CONTINENT

A Poem by Dtone

Copper and diamonds,

Coal and gold,

Corn and roses,

Savanna and Sahara,

The Nile and the coast,

All gifts from Eden to its ebony brood,

The crop ripe for the harvest, come spring or summer.

But the granaries are robbed by trusted pirates in noble seats.

Eden’s brood is left fleeing to greener pastures in foreign lawns.

Constantly portrayed by paintings of poverty, hunger and strife.

And Eden’s brood, has tarnished the crop with Abel’s blood

Five deadly sins hide the sun from Eden;

Disunity among brothers,

Disloyal Leadership,

Imprudent greed,

Misplaced identity,

Selfish ambition.

Her fertility is buried deep within,

And the richest of all lands is marred;

A continent with no light.
