DAMN MIRRORS !

 Damn Mirrors ! 

 

Flex those biceps and there he stands,

the champ.   Yup the Chump.  When you

were 19 and well on your way you were

the Champ.  Now ?  look at you, old.

You will never see thirty again, but who

looks ?

 

You look in the mirror again and see a

parade of beautiful women.  Hah !

Every one of them intimidated you (me).

 

Looking hard, there is a parade of figures.

Smart women.  Oh, I see you clearly--- you

have studied hard and long. Your future

bright .  You too are beautiful.  Really !

But, I am intimidated ---- You know .

 

Ah, the stream of sexy women.  There is a

long line.  They were sexually attractive, but

each of them looked deeply for the meaning

of life---- Not me, life stares back at me and

it was pretty sad.

 

Kind of homely, big sad eyes, witty.  There

are several of these girls and they worry me.

I don`t know what they know.  They feel so

inferior , yet I know they know.

 

Damn mirror !  I still see this aging man, who

never focused on the job at hand.   He knows,

but he knows not what he knows.  He is a

knowing sort, everyone thinks they know him,

overestimate him, some almost bow to him and

he knows why, but he must not let them know---

for knowing is power.......

 

Ah, there she stands, right behind the mirror.

She is tiny, cute, smart, and she adores him,

but it`s all a mirage .   He is not there, that is

only a figment, the image of a man.  Who could

love an image.  Not her, she is just an image---

an image of a woman who could adore him......

But he is just an apparition, an image in the glass.

I hate mirrors idk why. Maybe I know myself too well to still need one, lol. I'd rather see my own reflection on waters. But this is a lovely poem about aging! And that is one thing I'm not scared of getting into. I want to see myself getting old. I want to know what are the things I can and cannot do when I get old. And I am making sure I'm enjoying life while I'm still young so there will be no regrets when I get there. Beautiful write Eagle!

This I found was a great writing about how we view ourselves when we look in the mirror. I myself feel like there is no way anyone could go for me, but I guess we perceive a different image, like you say- an apparition when we look in the piece of glass. Great writing Eagle!
