I Know

I Know

A Poem by Elisa
"

I've always been pegged as the perfect girl with no problems. I wrote this to show that not everyone is who they seem.

"
I know what you've been through,
I know the monsters that have crawled beneath your skin because I have them too.
They locked chains around your heart and buried the key somewhere you would never find it;
They made you believe that you weren't capable of being loved.
I know what that feels like, trust me.

You traded your pigtails for bangs that covered approximately half your face so those around you wouldn't see your tears.
You became skilled in the art of deceiving with a fake smile plastered on your face so they wouldn't know they finally got to you.
You walked alone in crowded hallways feeling like no one even knew you were there.
You sat in the back of noisy classrooms so the teacher wouldn't call on you because you were too afraid to answer.
You surrounded yourself with walls reaching higher the Mt. Everest because the thought of letting someone in is terrifying.

You've gotten used to being the person everyone replaces after a while,
There will always be someone prettier than you,
Someone smarter than you,
Someone funnier than you;
And you know that everyone around you deserves someone so much better than you.

After a while you push everyone away so you don't have to watch them leave;
And at the end of the day you lay in bed wondering how you could've possibly ended up this way.

I wish I didn't know what this feels like, but I do.

I am impressed with the flow of emotions and u should have added that the will never be a person like u . No matter how people pick on u u have something they don't have and use their critics to build a better version of u

Opening yourself up to reveal your flaws is a courageous thing. Nobody's perfect and you don't try to be despite what other people think of you.well written
