A Mere Shell of My Former Self

A Mere Shell of My Former Self

A Poem by FlaLover
"

What remains when one leaves an abusive relationship

"
Our relationship is over
I’m free, no longer trapped
Years of your abuse left me
emotionally handicapped
In front of others you were my defender
Only I knew you are a pretender
Criticism, belittling, rejection, and
disregard I began to expect
Your thoughtless malice slowly
Eroded my self respect
Facing the harsh reality
that I am a mere shell of who I
Used to be
Overwhelmed with distrust, fear and despair
Asking for God’s guidance
Is my daily prayer

Asking for God's guidance is always a good way to start but in the end, the decision we have to make we knew all along and it was inside of us...we just needed the courage to do something about it. Sorry, I didn't mean to act like I knew what you were feeling because honestly, no one but you knows that. What a cheer about is, since you have the courage to put it out in writing I assume you took the necessary steps to eliminate the bad situation.

It takes great courage and more to cope with what you have and - what's more, to see it set out before you on screen Facing life and its turmoil takes enormous determination. Wishing you everything you wish yourself, Flal.over.
