Take Flight

Take Flight

A Poem by Fran Marie

I'm really tired of this scene
and it's time for me
to fly alone
Living in the shadows
of your dreams
Well, I've a few dreams of my own

Oh, poor, poor, Darling
don't beg me to stay
in a dying doomed love
such as ours
I need the glowing light
of a brand new flight
among a thousand stars

Seldom have we spoke of love
which once seemed
right and strong
romantic nights we shared
when once you cared
that faded, then disappeared
to a love-life gone

Oh, yes, I may feel
a shiver of the cold night's air
as I fly into new light,
but the road with you
is rough and crude
too late to repave anew
as you would like

And the rush of the winds
are calling within
for my wings to take flight.

Sometimes after you have fought the good fight, one has nothing left to give and the preservation of self worth must be sought.

Although I agree with the other reviewers that the last stanza has impact, I feel these had the most impact for me:
Oh, yes, I may feel
a shiver of the cold night's air
as I fly into new light,

That speaks to the strength one needs to leave a toxic relationship.

Kudos on a great read and thanks for the friends invite.

I can fully relate to this realistic write Fran. it is sad that what made us so happy once upon a time has flown with the passing of time. Some just don't know how to express love...but when emotional expression turns to malice...it is time to fly.

Wistfully melodic; sadness tempered by the notion of taking flight, to find love elsewhere, before it is too late. A wonderful and moving write, Fran.

"And the rush of the winds
are calling within
for my wings to take flight."

Resonates deep within, freedom, adventure, soaring on wings.

I feel this is deeper than when first I read this. Within a relationship people do fall in and out of love many times but always the same. I've been married for 36 years to the same woman and have found that my oppsite can suppress my wants just as I can hers. It doesn't mean that we are not in love with each other but normally it means we have stopped being attentive to each other. It is not as rough a road as some would have you think. That's what I mean by deeper. This is a great write but I'd love to read something of yours that left me with a smile on my face.
