Once a Muse

Once a Muse

A Poem by Fran Marie

Just one page granted
on old parchment ~
dried out and thinly veiled
  comes forth this muse
 bandaged in sadness

yes ~
I've seen her before

hidden weak spots
yet holding poetic inspiration
 she beckons to me
with words and tears
to share with parched ink
in a tired pen

 yes~
I've known her before

in fairer disguise
where bluer skies
found her eyes..
when flowers bloomed in
fragrant meadows

and it was five o clock
    somewhere

the time we spend with the muse is priceless...
flowers bloom like poetry from our pen in fragrant night times....

and yes, somewhere it is five o'clock.

for me it is usually 2 or 3 in the morning.
and my pen might be tired, but it still begs to be moved.
I really like this vision of the muse and our relationship with her.

Some of us have nice soft comforters for brains; blankets of inspiration like fluffy clouds that we might snatch from the atmosphere around us to craft bits of beautiful verse from.. Others, like myself are stuck with crazy quilts. At least there's plenty of color and lots to look at. My muse is schizophrenic and possibly possessed. (laughing) But I'll share the gifts he/she/they bring anyway. I enjoyed this.

Ahh sometimes our muses pull from the depth and beckon for a sad poem to form leaving behind the sunny flowery meadow for a bit

I get the feeling of a sad poet at first, "just one page granted", aging writings, weak ; then looking back upon herself when she was in better ways, bluer skies when flowers blossomed; your words are soft and meaningful. well done!

Dear Fran, your poem speaks to me about our relationship with our poetry muse. Those times when we are in tune with each other can be wonderfully productive. At the moment, mine has flitted away. Her butterfly wings have gone and I am missing her. Your muse was clearly with you when you wrote this lovely poem. So poetic in its expression. All good wishes to you and keep well.

This feels so refreshing! I don't know what it is, but the words you used and the way you used them are just perfect. I feel the story and it really feels as if I'm there, writing too. This poem perfectly implements so many things, including the feeling of writing. I adored the last line, it fit and made everything click together. This one will be going in my favorites! Thank you for sharing. (:
