Diamonds

Diamonds

A Poem by Fran Marie

I braved the flame
of your love
even burning with it

  consumed in instant
combustion as your
words; those bright sparks
  fueled my gullibility
and fooled me into loving you

 but oh, my love..

now you're just a flickering candle
 that was long ago
 burned out to the
winds of time
as my eyes see through
your cloud of smoke

realizing I'm renewed
with sparkling thoughts
and the odds of tapering
my heart to your favor

has died aside your tears

Where there is smoke there is fire...but sometimes it is just a fire that ends up burning us out on someone.
love the imagery here.
works so well with the theme.
I feel that little flickering that is the very small flame still burning in my heart...

This is a wonderful poem that leaves me sad and angry and wistful, all at the same time. Nicely done!

Memories flickering with a chance either way daunting. Which way do you wander? Lean with your gut or bail. A very enjoyable read. Read it multiple times.

Another read dear Fran. Well worth the visit I might add. That last stanza tells the reader, there is a little light aftercsime darkness. Time softens. Hope you are keeping well.

Things sometimes burn out with no fuel left to feed the flame. We learned in safety class that fire needs three things; a source of ignition, fuel and oxygen. Just because you have the spark or had it doesn't guarantee a blazing inferno. You've got to have fuel to burn and space to breathe. Of course, sometimes. things don't get burnt up completely right away and you might get charcoal which is slow burning and hotter than the rest. But if we cry in the flames, it's just no good for anyone, all that soggy smoke. I really enjoyed reading this. F.

Thanks Fabian. for the kind

Old loves never really die. We may say that no love remains, and the bad memories sometimes outweigh the good, but a spark usually remains lit - even if only a tiny one. I'm sure many readers will be able to identify with this poem!

I braved your love, down to a flickering candle. I realize now that I was gullible; that I fell for you, the wrong passion; Now I realize that you were all smoke, nothing real and truthful to me; I know that we had no future, even though at one time there may have been a spark, but now it is up in a sea of clouds.
Love this, much to think about.
Best, B

Dear Fran that flame can burn so fiercely, blaze so brightly. Wonderful imagery here. Sadly it doesn't always last, though the memory can bring it briefly back to life. So well conveyed.

I s o appreciate your kind words;
If you read my latest poem titled "Reborn," you might think I plagiarized yours. The images we both used are eerily similar; I guess the experiences we had are similar, too. So, all I can say is that I can relate to these lines, and of course, I didn't plagiarize. :)
