Colorful People

Colorful People

A Poem by Gabriel Eden

Different voices have different colors

Sounds and shaped unique to each pair of lips

Each movement painting a perfectly blended illusion

And each different pair of ears Hears it's own sounds

Never knowing that each piece of music Each vibration Is an illusion

And so we see and listen to this forever river of color and sound

Never wondering about a solo and bigger picture

I flew into the sky once

And wailed

For expecting to see a wondrous flow of each individual color

I saw a sea of black Lost we have the ability for a perfectly unified illusion

Too lost in our own

masterpieces
Never knowing that it could get better

Your impeccably explore the idea that individuals create and live in a personal set of illusions. As the last line of your poems suggests, their illusions define every aspect of their world, which prevents them from living an authentic life.

I also like how you described each voice as having a different color. Those opening lines reminded me of a condition called synthesia. One variety of the condition allows a person to hear colors based upon the tone of the sounds they hear.

Really well done with this poem.

This is beautiful! My favourite part is "I flew into the sky once/ And wailed." You should (in future writings) elaborate on the illusion you describe in this poem, it's worth reading more about. Well done.
