Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract

A Poem by Devons

Lust is Man's built-in addiction
  Love is Woman's

Love is Man's failsafe trap
  Lust is Woman's

Marriage is Man's unreasonable pledge
  Trust is Woman's

Trust is Man's natural ignorance
  Marriage is Woman's

Fidelity is Man's cool indifference
  Faith is Woman's

Faith is Man's lack of knowledge
  Fidelity is Woman's

Anger is Man's impulsive resort
  Crying is Woman's

Crying is Man's final debasement
  Anger is Woman's

Regret is Man's ultimate pain
  Divorce is Woman's

Divorce is Man's reliable commitment
  Regret is Woman's

Sex is Man's transient pleasure
  Romance is Woman's

Romance is Man's fool's gold
  Sex is Woman's

Nature is Man's inconsistency
  Silence is Woman's

Silence is Man's neglected soul
  Nature is Woman's

Reproduction is Man's guileless pride
  Eternity is Woman's

Eternity is Man's short-sightedness
  Reproduction is Woman's

Death is Man's futile existence
  And so is Woman's.

D this is an excellent poem in form, concept and structure. However, I would like to see more thought put into the oppositions represented. I echo the comments of many of the reviews in that your comparisons are not necessarily universal. If you could pinpoint some ultimate undeniable, truths between man and woman you'd get a Pulitzer from me.

Wow i like this. I like the comparisons bwteween the two and how they end up having the same thing in the end which is eternal. Great job.

I like these comparisons and differences as you have written them.
The closeness of the lines reminds of closeness between men and women.
Many of these traits are perhaps stereo-types as not your typical girl said.
Many are not , either or I am glad opposites attract.
I enjoyed this ...

Peace
Chloe

This form works very well for what you are doing. I would maybe suggest putting the lines into some form of stanzas, because the repeating form seems to get a little overwhelming. Nice work :)

This was a clever write, I liked how you confront the genders; also the deep meaning, even judgmental was fair within a poem. Many great lines.. Well sex is also woman's pleasure but for many centuries women were desired to be shy and innocent and now we are confused. I liked this very much.

hey u know what, i had reviewed this some time back, but i think i've been having serious problems with my net connection. it mustn't have saved.
alright, this isn't one of your best pieces according to me, because whatever you say, though common, is not ... genetic (?) like you seem to have written this.
it is a stereo-type, and yes, common, but it is not built in a woman or man to be like this.
also, society has a lot to do with it.
expect men to be jerks, when they actually are, it becomes easier for you to accept it.
a woman cheats on a man and people wonder what's going wrong in the relationship.
expect a woman to be secondary and the one that needs taking care of.. she will become dependent.
your point of view is correct to some point, but it isn't the law and word of mankind.

The profundity of this piece makes one read it twice over! I might not agree on all factors as sometimes it might be over simplified in its generalisation. Yet, very well put together and what a great flow to it. A really nice work of portraying woman and man! Enjoyed it!

Wonderful poem, Devons.

Although I do not believe your claims apply to everyone and that there are some exceptions, I think (for the general population) you are right on!

I am in love with the way you compare Man and Woman. The technique you used is very unique.

Great work, I will be reading more of your stuff. :]
