Into the setting sun

Into the setting sun

A Poem by Gee
"

As life draws to a close

"
My journey now is near it's end
and I have but few regrets,
I'll take his hand when offered up
as on my life the sun it sets.
We'll walk to where the sky meets sea
long shadows in our wake,
memories of good times had
in each footprint that I make.
Then slowly as the years they pass
as the tides of time break land,
these memories will fade, be gone
as will my footprints in the sand.

But your pen-prints will love on, just as you shall through the generations that follow you.
Your limb of the family tree will be the one the kids, grandkids and more will swing on, before shooting into their own branch, forever attached to yours.
Beautiful words Gee, that are hopefully very far from ending.

I'm still kickin' Gee... Well, it's more like a spasm but that just might be down to age 😉
You & Jacob & a bunch of others have been thinking about mortality a lot lately. I hardly ever think of it, but I do feel ready, as in your poem, the idea of being at the end feels comfortable & fully accepted. We didn't need to make a big splash, we don't care about being remembered any longer than footprints stay evident at the seashore. This is exactly how it feel to be ready, however it goes down, whether this year or after another decade or two. One would go nuts if one felt death as an impending doom-like thing. That's why your poem feels like a comfortable stroll thru the inevitabilities of living & dying (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Glad to read you are in the mend :))
I have been thinking about mortality a lot lately, Gee. Wondering if I have done enough to make a difference, if a memory will remain behind me.
I can relate to this one pretty well.
most if we are lucky to live long enough will reach this point.

Belated thanks Julie. Hope you are keeping safe and well
i like it as is Gee ... one certainly hopes that in death the launch is peaceful and not made alone .. but hand in hand with my Lord Jesus (my belief) and angels ... letting all the things of this life drift and fade and loose connection and importance for the Light ahead ... i love this .. its great stuff says i! i do hope you are well ... and staying safe ..

Apologies for the late reply E, thank you.
Hope you are keeping safe and well
Sometimes off the cuff simply works Gee. You capture the voice and air of acceptance in this nicely rhymed piece. The narrator appears at peace with dying and accepts that they will simply become marks in the sand for a short time, then a far of echo.

Cheers John, hope you are well.
What's a tweak between friends Gee :) If you penned this quickly you did well. You know I am still in fight mode not ready to take the reaper's hand. I hope when the time comes I will be ready. A poem to ponder on. Hope you and your clan are doing ok. I guess you are still working your socks out through lockdown. All good here in Berks.
