Block Fugees

Block Fugees

A Poem by Harmony Best

They were the Pras and Wyclef to my Lauryn Hill
My best selling, hip hop moguls that shattered my feelings yet made me feel
Hurt me physically then helped me to heal
Show’d me what was fake so I’d know what was real
They were the ones that stole my bike
Lost my game boy, and punished me during snow ball fights
They lifted my skirts, pulled my hair
And made me kiss somebody during truth or dare
Introduced me to drama
I was their little hot mama
They loved me dearly
Hated me severely
And pretended they couldn’t hear me
Just to be near me
Like Lauryn I was often caught between the group, lost
But I held my lyrics down and still bared my cross
And for that they held me down from the start
Held relay races and sat in the snow just for my heart
They hooked me up and put me down
Show’d me what summer love was then left town
We marco polo’d, tagged and tapped feet
Sprayed water guns and hoses and played hide and go seek
We scraped our knees
Kissed under trees
Witnessed each other bleed
But held a bond like you wouldn’t believe
And as we grew older things started to change
Of course they would, nothing stays the same
I was hated by their girls
For holding a valuable place in their world
Despised and love by their mothers
For being that hot little girl amongst some others
And for these things I love them all
I am who I am today because their love didn’t let me fall.
