Vietnam

Vietnam

A Poem by Rob Santana

You preyed upon my mind and soul

The horror's of your journey

Created my confusion

You left my life in ruins

Committing suicide solved nothing

Your madness hovers over me like a curse

Homicidal thoughts greet me each morning

No rest for the wicked

Broken ways, I stand with you

On Camron Bay

We are THE HERD

Government assassin's

Treacherous attacks

Look at me holding an axe

You preyed on my mind and soul

The horror's of your journey

Created ME

The damn wars had left a lot of us with things we cannot forget. I lost good friends and I write to their daughters. Their father loved them so. Vietnam left many empty and I hope and pray the old Soldiers find some peace. A powerful poem. The tale of war. We try to forget but it is tattoos on our minds and soul. Thank you for sharing the poem.

The path of war is never one that achieves peace. For every life has to live with a consequence and none stand higher than the consequences of war. Great write brother you sure the reality, the truth, the pain of life after the battle. The real war.

Hmmm...my father is a vietnam vet and he suffers from ptsd and manic depression. He tried to commit suicide when I was four. I know where your words come from...what he went through there affected his wives and kids in a way people dont understand. Sigh...piercing write Rob!!

As a soldier I know what war is like,
when you see combat you are NEVER the same.
no matter how hard you try to forget it' will always be apart of you.
I couldn't possibly fathom the horror of Vietnam.
this is gritty and real,
and utterly depressing.

My father brought Vietnam home with him. It's a childhood I wish I could forget.

I'm truly sorry for that :((((( my best wishes for a better future
(sigh) Yes it was rough hearing stories and as a kid I never really understood the deep pains he carried with him. Now we're left behind still trying to understand him and who he was. This writing is good though.

Nothing but confusion, however, life goes on with or without us.

Aint that the truth!
I can't begin to imagine what it must be like finding oneself in the midst of war, how the experienced horrors must haunt ones being for the rest of life supposing one is even capable of moving on, and then, how ones stories of what came to pass will affect loved ones. You give an insight to such an experience. A very strong write.

So I understood from a previous comment. Horrible it must've been. Can't imagine it.
war can definitely create monsters within us..and that was one of the worst wars for it.

the demons sleep with so many who were there.

strong piece, Rob.
